sex industry

Geoffroy asked:
I have to write a paper for a human sexuality class. The topic is: should the sex industry be dismantled or not? I want to write that the sex industry should not be dismantled for few reasons:
- it is an unknown industry that only few people really explore
- it can be a great tax revenue if nicely regulated.
- the more people would know about that industry, the more people would be aware of all the deseases…
- people are attracted by sex so we should regulated better for more security.
I need some other arguments to support my thoughts.
Thank you.

Sex should be a free enterprise! I you dont want to look at porn, then spend your money else where!

If you drive it underground, you create an outlaw nation where there is no protecction.

As it stands now, there are mechanisms in place to safeguard (however weak) the performers.

It is a fact of life and dismantling it will not destroy. Keep it where it can be seen.

Also, porn does serve a need in many people.

As to cries of abuse, there will always be those individuals who try to subvert the rules.

It’s an academic question only as the sex industry will never be dismantled. How can it be? Sex, reproduction, is a basic drive no matter how it is acquired.

Societies that have fewer restrictions on the sex industry (Japan and the Scandinavian countries, for example) have fewer reported cases of sexual violence against women than in the United States

Do you mean the sex industry as pornography, prostitution, sex shops, or all of the above?

Depending on what you define as a sex industry, you’d come up with slightly different results. For example, sex shops would figure into a person’s private life, and therefore shouldn’t be regulated by government. Pornography in any form shouldn’t be censored or banned as an extention of Free Speech, especially because it doesn’t threaten the government (as opposed to obviously subversive literature). Prostitution is not significantly different from any other service industry job except in the type of service provided; arguments similar to marijuana as similar to alcohol/cigarettes can be adapted here. You might cite the economic benefits of legal sex industries in Europe or Nevada or the protection the prostutites themselves enjoy if legal.

Well, I consider humanity as a whole, if not the tree of life as the sex industry, whether I want that dismantled or not is not up to me.

How can you outlaw something “everyone” does or wants…we tried that once with Prohibition FAILED! Why repeat history. As long as child porn, snuff films etc are outlawed why shouldn’t there be magazines, videos etc.
