With so many people suffering from porn addiction/sex addiction due to abusing porn, I think it is time we seriously think about how we should deal with porn that is prevalent in our society. There is really so much porn out there, whether in DVDs, TV channels, and plenty on Internet at the comfort of fingertips and privacy.
We cannot ignore so many people who are suffering from porn/sex addiction. If we don’t do anything, casualties will keep piling up.
What solution do you propose for this porn problem that is causing so much pains in people’s lives today?
It is very very serious problem. That is why I bothered to post here in the first place. Porn addiction/sex addiction is causing so many marriage problems/divorces, etc… It is like new epidemic. We must do something about it. It is like global warming.
If we don’t do anything and let it keep corrupt our society, it will lead to destruction of moral values of our society.

zeebya added these pithy words on Nov 16 08 at 5:33 amThe only time there’s any pain is when prudes like you think they have the right to tell us what we can and cannot watch!
What’s causing so much pain are self-appointed moral guardians trying to stop people from excercising their natural sexuality. You’re never going to stop people from watching films or images or stories of other people having sex.
txmom added these pithy words on Nov 16 08 at 1:02 pmAre people dying from porn addiction? Do they have rehab for that? I think I have a problem?
jade added these pithy words on Nov 16 08 at 7:55 pmI agree completely. Something should be done. Society is plummeting down hill because of it being so readily accessible and available.
Are we going to keep filling up the prisons with the ones that play their fantasies on little girls and boys or turn them into eunichs and let them roam? It worked in history (not really… made them resentful)… mostly only the royal families used them as servants.
I don’t know what the answer is but I am not blind to the problem.

¡Superdork!© added these pithy words on Nov 19 08 at 7:55 pm“All in moderation.” It’s only a problem when you immerse yourself in it. If we eliminate porn there will still be sex addicts with weird pee fetishes and such.
I believe the only solution to this problem can be rehabilitation and intervention. I don’t want to say that all mental health problems start with birth but I don’t think drawing a line in the sand or taking the banana away from the chimp is going to solve an addiction problem. Rehabilitation and compassion are the only ways to treat these individuals. Extreme cases such as rape, sexual mutilation and pedophilia should obviously result in an individual’s removal from society but as for the more mainstream addict there has to be thorough counseling. We’ve all heard that education is always the first priority but simply making a problem known isn’t going to solve it.
One more thing– I don’t think that sex addiction rates are escalating. I think that the reason it seems more prevalant in society today is that we have better intelligence allowing us to better identify sex addicts and pedophiles. We now have the internet which has heightened our awareness of societal issues and also makes our lives a little less private thus resulting in a supposed “significant increase” in sex crimes.
sm177y added these pithy words on Nov 22 08 at 4:20 amI see that in your previous question you “have to masturbate at least once a week”. What is it that you think about while performing this “foul” action yourself sir?
tukko-2 added these pithy words on Nov 23 08 at 6:22 amPornography’s appeal most likely has to do with the fact that it is “morally” illicit, forbidden, etc. If everyone walked around naked in our society I’m guessing there would be a lot less interest in viewing pictures of naked people. Also, if sexual taboos are broken down and discussions and acceptance of sex are more commonplace, then much of the “curiosity” factor would be defused.
So I propose the following changes in our society:
1) that non-sexual nudity be made commonplace on TV,
2) public nudity be allowed everywhere
3) children be exposed in a ho-hum manner to non-sexual nudity so that they do not grow up thinking there is something bad, wrong, immoral, or shameful with seeing nakedness
4) prostitution be legalized and regulated so that there is a legal avenue for someone to procure sex, if they can not otherwise procure it.
5) school curriculums should include frank and comprehensive discussions of nudity and sex, and they should explain that sex and masterbation are normal human behaviors.
6) Efforts should be made to un-do the stigma of shame, immorality, and sinfulness of sexual behavior that are taught to people at church.Anyway, if those things were done i’m guessing there would be fewer harmful effects of pornography and in general Americans would have a healthier view of sex and the naked body.

Why shouldn’t people be able to like porn?
Also, you mention abusing porn, as opposed to what, using it nicely?
The government shouldn’t be allowed to regulate what we like or want to do. Just because some (maybe most) people find porn unethical and bad, why do they get to make decisions for those who don’t. What if you like applesauce in your Macaroni and Cheese? It might be gross, but why shouldn’t you be able to do it?
Plus, if we just stopped producing it, what would happent to the jobs of all the people working in the pornography industry? Would we just delete all their jobs and way of life?
Shelley added these pithy words on Nov 29 08 at 3:21 amYou say we have a lot of people who are suffering from porn addiction or sex addiction. Could you please point out statistics from a reputable source showing that there has been a huge increase? I am skeptical, because I know that when the media covers the issue, they’re just being sensationalistic to get ratings or subscriptions. So I would like to be solid information and statistics, not just anecdotal evidence showing this to be a problem.
Chance20_m added these pithy words on Dec 02 08 at 2:00 amI was going to make a smart ass reply, but I’ll try and be half serious.
First off, porn isn’t new. It is thousands of years old. The Romans had pornographic murals in brothals and sometimes in bedrooms for that purpose. Other cultures had this as well, not to mention pornographic sculptures and the like. I don’t mean erotic items, which have some artistic merit, but straight up porn.
As for abusing porn, if our society wasn’t so repressed about sex and didn’t treat it like a taboo, maybe we wouldn’t have to hide our use of porn, which causes guilt, which makes any addiction that much worse, buecause you are “self medicating” with porn to deal your guilt as well as your lust.
I am skeptical that porn is the cause of the problems of sexual addiction, but instead believe they are the symptom of the underlying problems. One of the underlying problems being self rightous busybodies who try to tell me what I should and shouldn’t be watching on my computer screen.

momof3ismeinwv added these pithy words on Dec 03 08 at 2:15 pmI don’t know what to do about it but I find it sickening that no matter what you search for it pops up everywhere. I am so sick of hearing about it, receiving emails that elude to it or try to get you to subscribe to and I am REALLY, REALLY, sick of having to find new and improved ways of keeping my children from being exposed to it. I think it really sucks that I have to spend my hard earned money on programs that keep my children from being bombarded by it. If people want porn SOOO bad let them pay to see it instead of me having to pay NOT to!!!

Cashndc added these pithy words on Dec 07 08 at 2:14 pmIf you don’t like something don’t watch it or view it! No one should be able to Police others thoughts, views, and addictions. And if its so big off a problem for you its best to give your mate more nookies and may be they won’t seek it from a porn channel!

xialou1 added these pithy words on Dec 10 08 at 5:33 amSexual shame has caused porn to be popular, it is not porn that causes the ills of our society, it is the religion. Kill the religion and porn will die right behind it….I cant figure out why people do not understand this. Why do people molest kids? because they are not geting sex in the real world, and they are not because usually women are so traumatized from the relgion patronizing their sexuality that sex encourages shame and guilt in them, all the while womens number one fantasy is rape, their own body gets wet to the idea of it, but their mind feels horrid. This imbalance creates a repressed energy and porn just expresses what people hide from themselves….
Woodland Warrior added these pithy words on Dec 12 08 at 5:22 amNothing should be done about the porn. There are alot of things that can be addictive, from on line role playing games to spending every night at the bar drinking, to the point where it ruins people’s lives. If you start limiting activities and things on the basis that it could ruin someones life you are taking away freedom. Freedom is what this country was based on and if you start taking them away every war that has been fought in the name of freedom and every soldier that has died has been for nothing. No one is forcing you to look at the porn. You have the option of not looking at the magazine, turning off the TV, not renting the movie etc… Why do some people and religious groups assume that they know what it best for someone else based on their morels? I have a news flash for you, some people don’t have the same values and beliefs that you do and do not appreciate you assuming that you are superior to them, by telling them what they should and shouldn’t do. Sorry if I offended anyone but censorship and anyone advocating the loss of freedoms really gets me going!
rare2findd added these pithy words on Dec 15 08 at 3:30 amPorn is porn is porn is porn. People watch what they want. Sometimes they even pay for it.
The only “addictive” problem I see with it is when dirty old men or dirty old women ( or yes the young also I imagine) seek out teen or child sex porn. Therein lies your problem. For adults viewing adults, so be it.
