My 1992 Chevy Lumina developed a problem last summer. The air conditioner wouldn’t turn on and air was coming out the vents, even when the air controls were set to “off”. To make it worse, it’s hot air. The blower speed can also still be changed when the controls are set to off, though it can’t be turned off completely (so it causes the blower to always run). The rear defroster also cannot be activated in this state.

We found out the problem was a blown fuse in the CLUST slot of the fuse box. It should be noted that the instrument cluster (speedometer, warning lights, etc.) work fine when this fuse is blown or removed. It’s just the air system that screws up.

So we replace the fuse and it works fine and great…for a few minutes. The fuse shortly blows again, indicating a short somewhere on that circuit. We’ve now gone through a whole box 10 amp fuses. For stupidity’s sake, I placed higher rated fuses (20 A, 25 A, etc.) and they all blew as well. So it seems like a direct-to-ground short (maybe not; that might not be an indication, I don’t know).

My problem is that I don’t know where to look for this short. This is for 2 reasons:

1) I’m not sure what the CLUST circuit is, since it isn’t the instrument cluster. I’m not exactly sure which components are connected through it, which would be helpful in tracing said circuit. Obviously, I believe the air controls to be on that circuit, but I saw no obvious short on that unit’s wires.

2) Most of the dashboard assembly through which the circuits run is plastic. This would preclude the wires from shorting on the metal chassis. So I’m at a loss of thinking about where the circuit might be shorting. Maybe in the engine compartment, under the hood? I seem to remember reading that wires in the front-left of the car (when facing it) near the computer have a habit of rubbing and shorting against the metal in old Luminas, but I didn’t see anything obvious.

So those are the symptoms. What’s the diagnosis, doctor?

I tried pumping tone down that circuit from the fuse box, but I found that the signal became very quiet after plugging in (even with the battery disconnected) and the signal could be inducted from almost any wire on any circuit coming from the fuse box with equal strength. Plus it’s impossible to physically trace those wires without dismantling the entire dashboard.

We are moving across the country in less than a week in this car and getting the AC working is a high priority due to the heat. Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated!

Maytag washer model # MAV6000AWQ

I just bought this washer and dryer set used from a guy i didn’t know. I only payed $60 for the set though. The washer will fill up if it is on the hot wash cycle only. If it is on warm or cold it will not even start to fill up. I tested the coils (I don’t know what they are technically called) that are on the water inlets with a digital multimeter set on the ohms setting that beeps when a circuit is made and they seemed ok (it beeped when i touched both the terminals with my leads). I also checked the screens in the inlets and made sure the hoses aren’t clogged.

My girlfriend started a summer job in a National park in the middle of April. I am about an hour away so I have only been visiting with her each weekend and sometimes one day during the week. I noticed her acting overly smiley / strange two weeks ago around one of her coworkers who came out for food on a Thursday night when I visited. The following day he had texted her to stop by after work since he is staying in a bunkhouse at the park. She didn’t reply since I was with her and I really didn’t think anything of it. I visit her the following weekend and my girlfriend has become very sneaky and tries to hide the fact that this guy keeps texting her. Me not being there most of the week I’m not sure how often she is stopping after she finishes work but I now assume she has.

I took a day off work last week and actually stalkerishly went to the park and waited in a parking lot to see where she headed after work. Sure enough, she pulled up to the house this guy was staying at. I texted her and she said she was just finishing up at work and would call me when she got home. She did call two hours later saying she stopped to pick up some groceries on her way. Total crap I know. I picked up a voice recorder at best buy and left it in her car.

I surprised her by showing up yesterday evening when she got home and we had dinner. I took the voice recorder from her car and played it back. From just this past afternoon, I hear her talking to this other guy about how she can’t wait to go to lunch today. She picked him up in her car and within minutes of joking around and fliritng I could hear them making out. He made comments about how excited he was and she said that maybe she could help with that. It then got worse from there and I could hear my gf giving a bj but nothing more. I’m seriously going to go crazy here.

I’m not sure what to do in this situation, I do love her but this is unacceptable. What has happened to people these days. I get the excitement of a new job but wtf?

I have a Wii that came with two remotes originally. I wanted to play a four player game so I borrowed two more remotes from a friend but they won’t work with my Wii. Is there a way to sync them? Please tell me what I’m missing.
